Relay type - Can I use DC?

Can I use 24V DC instead of 230V AC on relays?

I would like to use them to activate my 24VDC activated contactor (and then contactor would let 230V AC to pass through).

sure, it's ok, relay can control DC or AC load, 230V load is ok.
