Weak wifi signal/range
#1
Hello,

Glad to join the forum, there are a lot of interesting things here.

I just received my Kincony A16v3 board equipped with the display. I planned to run it directly under ESPHome.
I flashed my YAML file, but upon reboot, it wouldn't get an IP address. I finally found the issue: it worked when I placed it right next to the Wi-Fi router.

At best, I get a signal at 2.4 meters away. It's as if the built-in antenna isn't working. Is this normal?

What kind of performance/behavior are you experiencing?

Thanks for your answers!

do you have connect a IPEX wifi antenna?
another way, you can download KCS v3 firmware for a testing.
here is KCS v3 online guide: https://www.kincony.com/how-to-use-kcsv3...board.html

Thanks for answering, and sorry for the silly question.
Indeed, I thought there was an embedded antenna because of the printed markings on the PCB... before noticing that the ESP was an ESP32-S3-WROOM-1U, which comes without an integrated antenna but only with a U.FL/IPEX connector.
I'll look twice next time. Apart from this non-issue, all my tests (SSD1306 custom display with wifi level and other local info, 3 x INA228 on I²C, RS485 waveshare modbus 32ch control, MOSFETs control, 2x DS16B20 on GPIOs...) are completely OK!

The board is really great!

Just a small remark: on the board's system block diagram, the EEPROM is listed at 0x60, but it is actually 0x50 on mine according to the I2C scan at boot. Anyway no issue at all with this for me.
