Upcoming house build - bluepr0 - 12-29-2022

Hi!

I'm in the process of researching to build a house and have a centralised place to control lights, blinds, etc.

Needs & Goals
  1. Have ESPHome Ethernet boards with relays I can control using regular light switches (momentary switches too) or through home assistants automation. This could be used for lights, blind motors, etc. Won’t need more than 16A per relay
  2. Have ESPHome Ethernet boards with PWM dimming capability for 24V analog LEDs with 3/4A Per channel. I created 1 channel mosfet board as a proof of concept dimmer with LEDC component from ESPHome and it works okay.

Questions
  1. As I understand relay boards will work with switches, but Would relay boards work also with temporary switches / push button?
  2. Are these board 0 delay when activating the relays? My main goal is to have an immediate response from the moment the switch or the command is triggered to when the relay turns on. I have seen some videos where a lot of relays are turned on at the same time and they seem slow.
  3. Is there any video of relay and dimmer board using ESPHome to see the speed? What’s the max Amp per mosfet channel?
  4. I’m honestly VERY lost on the product line. I have seen KC868-A8 could be a good fit (at least to do an initial test). A 16 relay version doesn’t seem to exist?. KC868-E16S seems another interesting one but it goes really high on price so I will need to be 100% sure about speed
  5. I’m still in research phase but I’m assuming a house will need at least 32 relays, and might or might not be all boards in the same placement. So I’m thinking it might not be a good idea to pick one big board but maybe several smaller ones?
  6. What products do you guys would recommend?

Needs & Goals

1. I think you can use KinCony's KC868-A series board. almost all board have ethernet port. every board also will have INPUT ports for momentary switch.
2. About PWM dimmer, you can chose KC868-AP, it's 16 channel output include driver, every driver chip for 3A , use by DC24v or DC12v LED strip.


Answer:
1. sure, every board can work for push button. which switch trigger type, it according to ESPHome setting in home assistant.
2. sure, almost 0 delay, because ESPHome firmware is work in locally, not according to network, INPUT trigger OUTPUT directly and locally. maybe you have seen some our KC868-HxB series relay controller, when all on and all off, i have added a little delay time , because when many many channnel ON at the same time, maybe have contact with contact, this has an impact on the power supply, just add a little delay when ALL ON will good healthy for power supply. if you want 0 delay, sure, no problem.
3. if you want to see KC868-AP work in home assistant by ESPHome, later we can make a video tour. max 3A per mosfet.
4. 16 channel relay controller, KC868-E16S and KC868-E16T also are good chose, because they use high quality "omron" relay, if relay is broken, it's removable, easy to repaire and install new one. so this is why price higher than others.
5. sure, sometime board will install on different place, you can chose 8 channel or 16 channel version, whether use one A32 or 4pcs of A8, just connect to network cable, almost is same, just can install anywhere.
6. we suggest use "omron" relay board version, it's high quality, if you can accept price, if want use low price by board's relay, sometimes work with large current, maybe you need add extend relay module.

Hi, thanks a lot for your answers, I'm starting to grasp and understand a bit better the product line. As a note I'm not looking for Tuya boards, only ESP32 and that can easily work with ESPHome but that also have Ethernet (that's a must!).

For the A series board, I'm only able to find KC868-A8 and KC868-A32, there's no 16-relay version it seems
For the E series board, E16S could be an interesting fit but doesn't seem there's an 8-relay version either.

I'm still confused about the series jumps, is the E because of replaceable relays? what the S in the E16S stands for? Is there a regular E16?

About the answers to my questions
1. Got it, that's great. Even better if it's configurable per input so I can mix switches and temporary switches!

2. Ahh I see, cool! I don't think I will need to turn on or off all relays at the same time but I just want to have super fast response when turning on delays. I've setup a proof of concept with Olimex ESP32-PoE + Relay board and it's lighting fast with ESPHome... based on your reply I assume it will be the same for this board

3. For the KC868-AP board I'm interested to know which component is using to generate the PWM signal and if it's as smooth in the brightness steps as using the LEDC component, which is the one I'm using in my proof of concept prototype

4. Got it. Doesn't seem to be a 16 relay (soldered to the board) like the KC868-A8 or KC868-A32 version, right?

5. I wish there was a 8 relay omrom board, in any case I couldn't find that extended relay module you are talking about in the Product section. How these boards work? Would they connect to any KC868-AX series?

--> The corresponding version is KC868-E8T, just added 4G module, can control by SMS and have energy meter function.

E series mainly use "omron" relay, now no version of common 16 relay version.

2. Yes, it will be fast. Because all use ESPHome to program.

Thanks! I think I'm getting a better idea of the products. I was checking the KC868-AP specs and it says the output is 0-10V. Is this a bug?

Also if every channel can handle 3V, is the board capable of delivering 16*3A = 48A at the same time?

From my experience, the ESPHome Ethernet boards work with switches or buttons without delays. My husband is tech-savvy, and when we purchased our current home, he wanted to transform it into a smart home with home assistant automation. At first, I was reluctant, but now I like controlling everything in the house, from lightning to technology, using just a few buttons. We have the KC868-A8, which works perfectly. I would advise you to find a house first, and then decide which products to purchase. When meeting with a specialist from Mortgage Advice London to discuss our mortgage, he told us that some houses have smart systems built within, so the mortgage price will include the cost of these products.

Yes, but you shold connect every LED voltage wire (orange terminal) to power supply directly. not connect all (orange terminal wire together in PCB, and use one wire to power supply, because the current really high, will let PCB line bad)

where you have seen KC868-AP output 0-10V? we will update it. if your LED strip use by DC12V, it will output 0-12vdc, if your LED strip use by DC24v, it will output 0-24vdc.

--> Yes, if you want to use full 3A*16, please connect every power wire (orange terminal wire) to power supply directly, because the current is large, don't connect all orange terminal wire together, ONLY connect one wire to power supply, this is dangous, will let PCB line burn.
