That...doesn't really make sense. My understanding (based on how the esphome software is configured) is that neither ESPHome nor the KCS esp32 software would have anything to do with keeping/storing/restoring the saved kwh data. That's all done on the ARM chip side of things. All the ESPhome software does is read from a modbus address for a value. I can't see any reason why reading a modbus address using the KCS firmware would produce any different results.
Given that on the previous ARM firmware, I every kWh register was resetting, and now only some of them are, it seems more likely that the arm firmware isn't behaving correctly.
